Welcome to Chevra DeZimra, a site dedicated to providing educational alternative potential examples of both traditional and contemporary expressions of the art of the Ba’al Tefilla, who lead the congregation in synagogue prayer and communal singing.
This initiative will hopefully encourage Ba’alei Tefilla to become “Song Leaders” and introduce different melodies to energize “communal singing”. The Torah teaches us that the first reflexive actions of thanks to Hashem by the newly freed Jewish people, upon crossing Yam Soof, were spontaneous communal singings. First led by Moshe and then a separate communal singing led by Miriam, Aaron’s sister. One of our primary goals is help every shul become a platform of spiritual uplifting, communal singing of the Tefillot.
Dezimra.org is sponsored by the Jewish Education Leadership Institute, a not-for-profit organization.
This site is still a work in progress. We have started with Musaf, the additional service for Shabbat. As time goes on we hope to fill in the rest of both the Shabbat and Weekday services, and also the additional service for Rosh Chodesh.
